Breaking barriers: advancing health equity for persons with disabilities in HIV care and treatment

26 February 2026 11:00 – 12:30 CET

The International Disability Alliance and World Health Organization invite you to join the webinar "Breaking barriers: advancing health equity for persons with disabilities in HIV care and treatment".

Around 1.3 billion persons with disabilities - or 16% of the global population - continue to experience persistent health inequities. In the context of HIV care and treatment, these inequities are often invisible, unaddressed, and firmly anchored in stigma, exclusion, and institutional obstacles.

Persons with disabilities are frequently excluded from HIV policies, programmes and data systems. Yet evidence shows they may be at greater risk of sexual violence and HIV exposure while facing major barriers to accessing prevention, treatment, and care.

Date and time

The webinar will be hosted on 26 February 2026, from 11:00 to 12:30 CET.

Content

This discussion will:
  • Position health inequities experienced by persons with disabilities as a global health priority.
  • Examine shortcomings in current HIV care and treatment models.
  • Highlight effective approaches for disability-inclusive HIV responses.

The webinar will feature WHO experts, OPD representatives, UNFPA, and Member States, followed by an interactive Q&A session.

Health equity cannot be achieved if persons with disabilities remain excluded from HIV responses. Join us in advancing inclusive, rights-based solutions.
