WHO consolidated guidelines on tuberculosis: module 4: treatment and care, 2nd edition

Overview

WHO’s Department for HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections maintains all current recommendations on tuberculosis (TB) treatment and care in a unified set of consolidated guidelines, organized into modules covering specific programmatic areas. Module 4: treatment and care encompasses recommendations for the treatment of drug-susceptible and drug-resistant TB and for patient care and support.

This second edition consolidates recommendations on TB management in children and adolescents and incorporates new and updated recommendations for drug-resistant TB treatment, including shorter treatment regimens for pre-extensively drug-resistant TB according to disease severity and a new recommendation on palliative care for people with multidrug- or rifampicin-resistant TB.

Developed according to WHO standards using current evidence reviews and the GRADE approach, the guidelines are primarily intended for health policy-makers and national TB programme managers, while also supporting health professionals, technical agencies and other organizations involved in TB treatment and care.
